Open Monthly Meeting Notes: February 2026
The open monthly meetings aim to strengthen information exchange within ORDS-MV. The platform is open to all interested people (students, doctoral researchers, postdocs, senior scientists and professors, …) who wish to discuss topics related to Open and Reproducible Data Science and Statistics. It provides space to share experiences, raise questions, articulate needs, and develop joint plans and initiatives.
In February 2026, we met virtually and discussed the following topics:
-
Teaching FAIR Data Science: We explored how to develop a modular course on FAIR Research Data Management (RDM). As a useful reference, we highlighted the publication “Learning objective matrix on the topic of research data management (RDM) for the target groups students, PhDs and data stewards”, which provides structured learning objectives for different target groups.
-
Licensing: Licensing remains a complex topic, particularly regarding different license types, their advantages and limitations, and the underlying legal framework. The report “Veröffentlichung und Nachnutzung von Artvorkommensdaten am Beispiel des Fischartenatlas der Gesellschaft für Ichthyologie e.V., Wissenschaftliches Gutachten” is a useful reference as it is a practical example addressing publication and reuse of biodiversity data.
-
European Conference on Data Science (ECDA) 2026: The European Conference on Data Science will take place from 9–11 September 2026 at the University of Applied Sciences in Stralsund. We are planning to submit an ORDS session focusing on reproducible data analysis. More information here: ECDA2026
Thank you to all participants for the constructive exchange. We look forward to welcoming you to the next monthly meeting or upcoming ORDS-MV events.
